Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular disease includes heart attack, stroke, and diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

Heart disease is the number two killer in men and women in the U.S. and strokes are the #3 killer after heart disease and cancer.

One in four Americans over 40 are at risk for developing the irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation, a major cause of stroke.

65 million (30%) adults have high blood pressure in the U.S.

Up to 70% of people will end up with above normal blood pressure.

high cholesterol – U.S. average is 210-220

-- Rural Chinese average is 125-130

Chest pain or shortness of breath signals the cry of a starving heart.  The classic male symptoms of heart disease are frequently absent in women.  Instead women may experience a variety of symptoms: shortness of breath, fatigue, even back pain.

People with total cholesterol of 240 and above have double the risk of heart disease as those who keep their cholesterol under 200, according to the American Heart Association.

The first symptoms of heart disease are not just high cholesterol and blood pressure. depression is also an early symptom.
