Steady Diet of Red Meat Increases Colon Cancer Risk

People who consumed red meat upped chances by 50 percent
Eating red meat and processed meats such as lunch meats over a long period of time can increase your risk of colon cancer, researchers report.
A 20-year study of more than 148,000 adults aged 50 to 74 found those with the highest consumption of those meats were 50 percent more likely to develop cancer in the lower colon than those with the lowest consumption.
Those are numbers that could be important to the followers of the Atkins diet, which encourages consumption of meats, said Dr. Michael J. Thun, head of epidemiological research at the American Cancer Society.
“The Atkins diet became popular just recently, so no one knows the health effects long-term,” he said. “But the accumulating evidence that a diet high in red meat or processed meat increases the risk of colon cancer indicates that it would certainly be undesirable to remain on the Atkins diet long-term.”
Thun stated that there are two other factors most people do not always associate with cancer — obesity and physical inactivity.
“High meat consumption is associated with at most a 50 percent increased risk for cancer of the lower colon,” Thun said. “Obesity doubles the risk for all colorectal cancer, as does lack of physical activity.”

and Colon Cancer

For those of you who thought you would eat one of the high protein diets popularized, think on this:
Although these diets have the benefit of getting people away from sugars, refined starches and flours, they replace them with something as bad if not worse: Cooked, toxic, hormone filled, antibiotic filled animal products.
As this study shows, red meat causes an increase in cancer, but also so does chicken, fish, eggs and dairy products when they are eaten in the cooked form. Why, because they all cause inflammation and inflammation eventually causes disease, cancer being one of many.
Doesn’t it make more sense to not only get rid of the source of sugars, but also the toxic animal products which cause inflammation, by replacing them all with an anti-inflammatory, disease reversing diet of living/raw plant food?
This is a diet of living and uncooked sprouts, seeds, nuts, legumes, vegetables, sea vegetables and avocados.
