VITAMINS: Food vs. Pill

The purpose of this chapter is not to go over every vitamin and tell you what it’s for and how much to take. There are volumes of books that do that already.
My approach is different. I would like as many vitamins and minerals as possible to come from whole-food sources and live food. As I have noted, there are 16 vitamins, 60 minerals, 3 essential fatty acids, and 12 amino acids necessary for good health. All of these should come from our food as much as possible.
I want to explain the difference between a vitamin pill and a whole-food source of vitamins. There are three questions one must ask when comparing vitamin-mineral supplements:
1) Is each vitamin complete, having all the necessary cofactors, enzymes, and phytochemicals to allow maximum utilization in the body?
2) What is the source of the vitamins and minerals?
3) Are the vitamins and minerals maximally absorbed so they can be maximally utilized by the cells of your body?
Did you know that all vitamin supplements are commercially processed with various chemicals, additives, preservatives, fillers and are synthesized in a laboratory? They are man-made, not God-made. They are only minimally absorbed into the body and only under very deficient states. Children in Africa who are starving and losing their sight when given synthetic vitamin A will regain their sight because God made our bodies to MAKE a way and will use anything to prevent diseased state. Most people in the U.S. are not this deficient, so synthetic vitamins have minimal benefit, if any, along with all the added chemicals. Man-made vitamins are not balanced, and therefore cannot be maximally utilized in the body.
Let me explain the difference between organic food and synthetic sources for our vitamins. In a Swedish study, two groups of silver foxes were fed identical diets, except the first group was given synthetic B vitamins while the second group was given brewer’s yeast and other natural foods, which is very high in naturally occurring B vitamins. The foxes in the first group, given synthetic vitamins, failed to grow, had extremely poor fur and developed many diseases. The second group, given the whole-food form of vitamin, grew normally, had beautiful fur and maintained good health.18
Dr. A.J. Carlson of Chicago University said, “On the whole, we can trust nature further than the chemist and his synthetic vitamins.”19 Paavo Airola, Ph.D., further states, “We must keep in mind that in nature vitamins are never isolated. They are always present in the form of vitamin complexes. There are 24 known factors in Vitamin C-complex. There are 22 known B-vitamin factors. When you take natural vitamins — like in the form of rose hips, brewer’s yeast or vegetable oil — you are getting all the vitamins and vitamin-like factors that naturally occur in these foods. That is, you’re getting all those vitamins that are already discovered as well as those that are not yet discovered.”20
